Oct 27, Colombo: Leader of Sri Lanka's Democratic People's Front (DPF) Mano Ganesan says his party would work in support of the people in the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) before thinking of the agendas of the political parties in the Council.
Ganesan has said that while many have posed the question as to whom his party would support in the CMC, the DPF has decided that the party should stand with the people in Colombo and make decisions for the welfare of the people.
The DPF secured six seats in the CMC at the elections and due to the failure of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) to secure a majority in the Council, DPF has been placed in a key position.
However, Ganesan has said the party would support the UNP in the Council on a case by case basis.
He has added that certain extremist elements within the UNP were shocked that the DPF managed to increase its votes in Colombo and secure six seats in the CMC by contesting alone.
